Sweet Hollow Presbyterian Youth Group

The Youth Group of the Presbyterian Church of Sweet Hollow in the Huntington area of Melville, NY is for young people who are in grades 6-12 and welcomes the youth of our church and their friends.
The YG meets every second and fourth Sunday of the month from September to June. We meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and share a family-style meal together before the program, which consists of games, discussion and if the weather permits, a bonfire outdoors on the Great Lawn.
In addition to having a great time together, we are also committed to making a difference in our community and our world. In March 2011, we participated for the third year in a row in the 30-Hour Famine, raising over $3,800 to feed hungry children around the world.
Also, every summer we go on a Mission Trip to serve those in need. In July 2010, we went to Washington, D.C. with young people from the Presbyterian Church in Garden City where we spent five days serving in soup kitchens, park reclamation centers, helping the elderly and the homeless. Despite it being excruciatingly hot, we learned a lot and felt like we truly made a difference in people’s lives.
In August 2011, we’ll be joining up with the Garden City Youth Group again, spending a week at Mission at the Eastward (MATE) in central Maine, a Presbyterian Church (USA)-sponsored ministry that helps low income families with housing needs. We’ll be doing work like building disability ramps, doing minor roof repair, window replacements, miscellaneous carpentry and painting, both indoor and out. We’ll be staying at the University of Maine at Farmington campus and preparing our meals in a local church. This promises to be yet another experience where God’s grace is at work in us and in the jobs we do.
Youth Group is a great place to learn about God, yourself, your neighbor and how you can become the person God imagines you to be – and have a great time doing it! We hope you join us soon.
